Saturday September 11th 2010.

After playing an awesome show with his other, Devon based band Freak By Wire, Mark Horrell had his Epiphone Firebird bass and shell pink Fender Telecaster stolen from the back of a car behind The Clipper in Camborne. Tele is a dear friend of The Made Up Tuesdays and featured on many recordings. We’d really like to get her home safely as soon as possible.

Here’s what to look for:

Shell Pink Fender Telecaster. Mexican Joe Strummer relic neck. Rosewood fingerboard – lighter at first and second frets on top edge. Body is a really soft vintage pink, lightly sanded to a matte finish with plenty of small nicks and dings and buckle worming. Hardware is all vintage style relic’d. Pickups are hand-wound Bulldogs, but you’d have to take it apart to check. It has a vintage tweed style strap extended with a shoelace.

It’s a very distictive guitar and in a Fender plastic embossed hard case. It had a Mojo Guitars sticker on and blue tape with the words “Mark’s Tele, Yummy!” written on. Also a piece of silver gaffa tape with ‘Pinky’.

The Epiphone Thunderbird bass is vintage sunburst finish with a bolt-on neck. One of the strings is bodged together on the headstock and it has a nice big chip out of the top horn on the body.

Any information in finding these instruments is greatly appreciated. If you have seen them, or been offered them for sale. Please obtain seller’s details if possible and contact us or the police right away.

Translation is a little strange in places, but you get the idea!

We can not speak for the group Made Up Tuesdays … Let’s say it is an “experiment project” was born and started to Cornwall, in Britain in January 2008, by multi-instrumentalists Matt Chapman and Mark Horrell, who along with other friends and associates (which vary from time to time), occasionally traipse into a recording studio, meet, begin to play and record everything. Nothing is written, or carried out, almost everything is captured in one take. And they put out albums like this “The God Particle, spontaneous, hypnotic, attractive, with a set of tracks from psychedelic-progressive jam. For the most part seems to blur their music between the ’60s and ’70s, with electric guitars sometimes sour, sometimes weeping, with keyboards to create scenarios sound bizarre, with aid of tools of various kinds … The CD is long, almost an hour and twenty minutes, but can never get tired and is enjoyable in every aspect. It brings to mind some sound experiments from many years ago, in particular those of cosmic German couriers, or Hawkwind, or visions of the American psychedelic scene. But they also warn ideas closer to modern times, as shown by certain repetitions care to Ozric Tentacles, the circumstances where there is a trend a bit sluggish ‘à la Radiohead, or atmospheres that appear to come from the scene of Bristol and Portishead. Entirely instrumental, all songs flow path that is a pleasure, even with some leaders of great beauty and intensity, as the eighth track “Fistfull of Trumpets”, which features the wonderful presence of the trumpet. The rhythms are never too short, which contributes to this dreamlike and hallucinatory. Between past and modernity, Made Up Tuesdays show their love for music and try to convey their passion in this simple way, live, but damn effective. “The God particle” is an album that contains many good ideas and I admit that for me to discover Made Up Tuesdays was really a great pleasure. We also do a straight: on their site you can listen to good music coming from their many recordings …

THE MADE UP TUESDAYS
The God Particle

Review by Tarkus Magazine (extract)

The Made Up Tuesdays (tMUT) is a long lasting project that Angel (formerly Gary) Walker recently joined and this is actually much more interesting. The concept here is a straightforward instrumental music bordering neo-psychedelia/post-rock, with some superficial influences from both the older days of Kraut (La Düsseldorf, Embryo, Release Orchestra) and later stuff like Bark Psychosis and Mogwai. Most of the material, however, differs from the somewhat stringent strategy in the setup of the two latter bands, as tMUT primarily concerns the art of suggestion and a meticulous painting of frail atmospheric images. The playing is also loose and comfortable rather than costly, with an instrumentation which embraces woodwind and brass (sax, trumpet) in addition to the core of (el-guitar/bass/drums/organ, analog synth and electric piano), and the sketch-like progress of the songs have a light touch of cinematic jazz and primitive electronica. Music that is seemingly simple in design and delivery, but not necessarily in the plan and effect.
